Qualifications...- . Need.
Determinates: Lacks cold and hot running water, lacks proper plumbing, lacks proper maintenance, dilapidated, lacks reasonable payments, paying more than 50% of income for rent, lacks dependable electricity, heating and cooling systems, lacks adequate space for family size, lacks protection from hazards and health threats, or lacks in physical structure (walls, ceilings or foundation). - 2. Ability to repay.
Habitat for Humanity Whitley County acts as a hand-up not a hand-out. A family's income must be in 30-60% of the area medium income range and they must have an acceptable credit history. The family must also be able to put $500 down on the house and provide the first year's homeowner's insurance before moving into their new home. - 3. Willingness to partner.
Every Habitat family must be willing to partner with Habitat this means providing 250-350 hours of "sweat equity" on their house, attending homeownership classes and financial counseling, as well as, agreeing to satisfactorily maintain their home.
